Take the recommended service intervals and halve them and you'll be able to leave it to your grand-kids.
Ignore them and you will hear nothing but the happy voice of your mechanic saying "That'll be $35,000 for the new engine sir - Marge! we're going to Europe this year!"
On the other hand don't be afraid to thrash it. I beat my old 328 mercilessly and it kept coming back for more.
