Hi Chris. I've been very pleased with my 450D. I've never seen a glow in that position, but Doug may be on to the problem re Liveview. I only use mine briefly to get focus right. Once I have it talking to the laptop and focused I turn off the camera display all together to save batteries and heat and drive from the lappy.
I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure you get 1x, 5x and 10x on the LCD screen, but only 1x and 5x on the laptop. Peter 4059 had a great idea in another thread - uses magnifying software on his laptop for a bit of extra clarity while focusing with Bhatinov mask....
