Jupiter "Bird Strike" July 27th 2009

Hi All,

Imaged Jupiter last night July 27th. Seeing was not good 4 to 5 / 10 with frequent periods of unsteadiness. Looking forward to the High pressure system that should arrive by the end of the week.

This is an R channel image captured for 2 min's at 12:43 UTC CMII 217 degrees. Source of CMII data was Jupiter 2.

This is a 3,600 frame capture processed in virtual dub, ninox, Registax V5, Astra Image Pro 3 and Adobe Photo Shop CS4.

Due to the relatively poor seeing I was only able to stack 829 frames of the 3,600 available.

The image was captured with a 16" F4.5 Newt on a GEM with a Annsen Technologies dual axis drive & drive corrector, a JMI Moto Focus, Orion filter wheel & Astronomik Type II RGB filters, a 3x TV Barlow working at 5.3X with a DMK 21AU04 CCD. Scope was working at F23.6.

Clearly the Bird Strikes morphology is changing and the scar is becoming more elongated. However, even in poor seeing the scar continues to have quite high contrast to the surrounding region and even in the Blue channel it clearly remains visible.

I also have some RGB's and more R channel avi's to process, perhaps I will have more to post by this evening. This R channel image represents about 4 hrs of processing.

Thanks for looking
Regards
Trevor
