What do you mean by "hiccups" ???

i would use something to access the SMART information on the drive, There is a little util i use called speedfan, and while its for temp, fan, and voltage monitoring, one of the other things it can do, is give a detail report of the physical drive status. But TBH, this could be anything.

Is the drive SATA or EIDE?
different drive cable?
What PSU you using?
is the case well cooled?
what other hardware is in there?

If this was working fine on the old drive, then you might have your answer. I to have a PC that i leave on "all night " and all day for that matter, and i have had some issues. Desktop components aren't made to the same tolerances as server components.
