Well, back in my day, sonny, we only had two J's and it was on AM. I didn't hear them start their service by playing a banned song (You Just Like Me 'Cos I'm Good In Bed) but I was listening to them later in '75 - when I could. The underpowered hand-me-down transmitter didn't always get the signal to Wollongong. They put a lot of music on air that no one else would touch - Yes, Floyd, Focus and Split Enz before anyone had heard of them (and when they were really a band worth hearing). By the end of 75 and into 76 the Saturday afternoon show Knude Radio (with a silent k) was mandatory listening.

In 77 I moved to Sydney and Fred Dagg (John Clarke of Clarke and Dawe fame) helped start each day with a smile, or falling off the chair laughing if he was having a good day (the mention of 'Erg Potential' still cracks me up). I also heard the great Bretton folk/folk-rock performer Alan Stivell on JJ and so went and saw him at the Pavlova, thus opening my eyes to a whole new genre.

I don't listen to JJJ any more, I find it's not for me, but all the radio I hear is from Aunty.
