I know I may be risking my life by saying this but I'll do it anyway.
I for one am HAPPY about the price of petrol skyrocketing! Fossil fuel use is out of control and its potential impact on our home planet can no longer be dismissed. All those people driving around in huge tanks that never go off road and are often used to transport just one person really make me mad. Hopefully the steep rise of petrol prices will put an end to the big 4WD buying frenzy of the past 5-10 years.
Yes, it does hurt when I have to spend $60 to fill up the small tank of the old Corolla (and hate to think that soon it will be $80-$100), but when I think about how much more it will hurt all the incredibly self-centred people with their 3 tonne shopping trollies, it makes me feel much better.
On the other hand, I am not happy about so much of the price going into taxes, because I do not believe that Howard and his stooges are spending our tax dollars wisely or fairly... But let's not get too far into politics here.
Petrol is still very cheap compared with European prices. I don't think the excise should be reduced but, along with the GST on petrol, put into renewable energy initiatives and research in order to curb our dependence on fossil fuels.
PS. Can I still come to Star Camp without the risk of lynching?
