Yes indeed, I would be fascinated to meet an amateur who actually wore an eyepatch over their observing eye the day before an observing session!! Haven't yet, but I've heard they exist!

I solely use mine over my non-observing eye (left) while observing, so that I can keep it open and not squint. I've found that, even in the darkest conditions I've been in, my left eye sees enough of the scope beside the focuser to be distracting.
