As someone who employs 50+ people, who work in relatively close quarters, I concur that if they are sick they should stay home. But seriously expecting me to "gladly" pay them to do so (outside of their entitlements of course) - you've got to be kidding? I would be broke in short order. "Cough, Cough - taking a week off"

I only have one pet peeve - the people who take their "sick" day basically on a roster, like clockwork each month or so. Always on a Monday funnily enough. And never being so sick that they need to have multiple days off or go to the doctor to get a certificate.

I have had very dedicated staff who have never taken a sick day in years, and then have become really ill, and used it all up. I have many times continued to pay them (although I have no requirement to do so). The "clockwork sickies" get nothing from me, not even the slightest compassion. Sick days are there for when you're sick. That's all.
