Saw it last Sunday night with family & friends. Everyone loved it. The characters were spot on from looks to behavior. The storyline changed quite a bit from the original Star Trek pilot, but I actually preferred the new outcome.
As some others have stated, I like the different angles used in the cinematography. It really added to the realism of space.
I've been a Star Trek fan all my life (I mean fan, not fanatic. I don't go to conventions in full Kligon regalia) but there are a couple of things that I have always found annoying in the Star Trek universe. I hate it when the Enterprise & another starship face off to each other and they are only 500 meters apart. Surely if we can travel 300 light years in 6 hours and teleport people at the same time, we can develop offensive and defensive tactics that are effective from more than one kilometer. The other thing is that in these interstellar encounters, the two or more starships are always on the same plane. By this I mean they are all the same way up. Almost as if in space there is an up and a down. I would love to see a scene where two ships meet and one is at a totally different attitude to the other. This latest movie touched on this a bit when it showed the Enterprise at an unusual angle to a planet.
Anyway, loved the movie and will probably buy the DVD when it's available
