If they do a remake, then that's OK - however good or not it turns out, it won't ever take away from the original. Actually, I'll generalise here and suggest that remakes are all OK - as we're not being told as such that the original is being replaced, and won't have access to it any more. Often as not, a remake will re-kindle interest in the original, so this is good too. I can't imagine that a large percentage of the young movie-going public has even heard of the original Forbidden Planet. Maybe a remake will prompt some to watch the original as well.

Forbidden planet was so ahead of its time, that i still think it stands up today, even if the effects are looking a little dated.

I think for me it totally encapsulates that image of 50's Sci-Fi with flying saucers and ray guns etc. in much the same way that Blade Runner summed up that 80's industrial sci-fi look, that lead to The Matrix etc. such movies are priceless

i keep looking for it in 1080p, or at least 720p and a good HD-Audio or at least DTS soundtrack would be excellent.
