The path of totality in 2012 passes right through the centre on Cairns. Wow, the best place to have any sort of celebration, right on the "beachfront" Remember Ceduna 2002?
Well the bad news is that we were in Cairns last year and given the position of the sun at totality - 13 degrees above the horizon and at 105 degrees ,there is a large hill -an aboriginal reserve directly in the path! Someone should check the position of the sun on November 13th this year at the same time just to be sure but the fabulous beachfront of Cairns will not be the place to be. Maybe Port Douglas or inland. Anyone planning major events for the city will need to do some serious calculations before too long. Not sure where we will go but Cairns could be the biggest disappointment ever especially if there is no cloud.
