Hi Everard,
I live in Hahndorf a few km up the hill from you. Nights haven't been the best recently - you can feel the water in the atmosphere! Fear not, it will get better! I have had many fantastic imaging nights from my backyard.
Also take heart in the fact that Paul Haese has produced many world class planetary images from his home in... (wait for it...) Blackwood!!!!
Hope you're not too disheartened with astro-life in the Hills (there's always the wine!)
