Pinch and a Punch

Hi All

Last night was a night for experimentation once again ... this time with my Canon 35-70 FD lens attached to my SBIG ST2000XCM.

Because there was so little movement in the frame due to the wide fov ( less than 1 pixel ) I couldn't do a calibration no matter how much I tried so I gave up on that idea and used Track and Accumulate mode in CCDOPS instead to try and at least get something out the session.

When I went to process the images today I discovered that some of the shots were slightly less than the 1600x1200 chip size ... only by a matter of 2-4 pixels ( don't ask me why they weren't full chip size ) but this was enough to make DSS refuse to stack the images because they were different dimensions. I tried resizing in Maxim DL and restacking but DSS didn't even recognise the files even though I resaved them in their original format

So once again to try and salvage something from the 3.5 hour session I stacked only the 2 images that were exactly the same dimensions ( 1598x1198 ) of M8_M20 region and here is the result.

2x300sec comprised of 20x30sec subs accumulated @ -18C
Total 10 minutes
Lens set at 50mm @ F5.6

p.s. I took some other images of Antares region and M16_M17 also but they didn't work out so well

p.p.s. The little rocket ship looking objects are badly flared stars ... it's not the best lens and I can't fit the MPCC to this setup but hey it's all fun.
