Animation of Jupiter passing 44 Capricorni
Hi all,
I read that Jupiter was going to be passing the 6th magnitude star 44 Capricorni over the last few days, so I thought it might be a good opportunity to do a little animation showing how fast Jupiter moves against the background stars. So I took an image at about 5am on each of the last 4 mornings (25th-28th April) using a tripod-mounted dSLR and 300mm telephoto, and here is the result. Unfortunately with this setup I was not able to resolve the very close grouping of 44 Cap and Jupiter's moon Callisto on Sunday morning (it just looks like an elongated star in this amination), but it looked great in my scope! Did anyone else have a look on Sunday morning? I didn't realize quite how fast Jupiter moves, so I'm glad I made this animation.
Thanks for looking.
Cheers,
Stephen
