I need my sleep so usually finish by midnight so I'm functional at work the next day. With work I often get called out overnight and still have to work the next day. The result is a headache and poor concentration for the day. This is not good when sometimes lives can depend on me doing my job competently.
we all need adequate sleep.
A study was reported a few years ago of junior doctors in the UK. After 16 hours of straight work their decision making skills were the same as when they had a blood aclohol of 0.05. Not great and one of the reasons that long shifts are now discouraged in the health industry.
