I have a pretty good HI-FI/6.1 Home theatre with an SA-CD/DVD Audio player. I had always believed that CD's are a fair bit better than vinyl records but over time I've found certain music just won't work on CD while other music really kick vinyls butt.

For Digital
Pink Floyd-Dark side of the moon.

Great on vinyl
Fantastic on CD but
Awesome on SA-CD in 5.1 audio.

For Vinyl
The Doors-LA Woman

Great on DVD-Audio
Fantastic on CD but
Perfect on Vinyl

It really just sounds "right" on vinyl as IMO the pops and warmth is much more suited to the "bluesy" type sound.

PS: GMAN, you have me intrigued about what 80's gems you have 45's. I remember in 1989 at Brashes Southland people would buy a CD player for $699 and later come in with a crate of old vinyl and ask if they could trade it in for CD's. As we didn't take tradeins sometimes they would dump them in the skip near the Target exit. Sometime we would get them for nothing as well.
