I forgot to mention one of my favourite disaster movies....
Poseidon Adventure is brilliant, Towering Inferno and Surround Sound EarthQuake!! HA!...was such a good LFE it made my cousin throw up!
Other disaster flicks include the Day After and On the Beach were spooky but with a thermonuclear theme,
"Fail-Safe" is the winner. For those that cannot recall, a mistake sends USAF bombers into Russian airspace to attack Moscow. One makes it and to prove it was an error, New York is nuked by the USAF. Very spooky since it was based on the actually fail-safe proceedures of the day.
