i reckon 'space odyssey 2001' gets my vote as long as you fast forward through the long psychedelic colour sequence towards the end (and maybe also the pan-am trip to the space station and the briefing in the space station). I've seen S.O. 2001, 6 or 7 times and always notice something new - like the 'high pitched sand falling' noise on the soundtrack when he's retrieving the dead astronaut. Love showing parts of it to high school kids for their reactions. The movie would have to be one of the "most referenced in other movies" too.
