I had a similar problem (ie no bios or startup intermittantly, but power to keyboard but mouse not playing nicely) with a Sony Vaio laptop a few years ago.
Turned out to be a faulty cable to the hard drive.
I am no IT specialist, but have simply had a similar prob.
