A good starter scope, but as Barry said, hardly a beginners scope. However, you have plenty of time to learn how to use it and in the meantime you'll get a lot of enjoyment out of it.
Be sure to join your local astronomical society, though. The more experienced members will be able to help you out greatly and you'll learn heaps off of them.
