C/2007 N3 Lulin and its two tails
Hi all
Got up at 2 am ready to start imaging Comet C/2007 N3 Lulin. The sunward tail is clearly seen. I went deep, 65 mins at F3.6 with no filter at all. This may have helped pick up more of the dust sheet making up the tails with the camera now recieving infra red as well as visible light. The sunward tail seems more yellowish indicating dust, where the rear tail seems greenish indicating gaseous emission
13x5 mins ISO200. MPCC coma corrector, modded 350D, Meade 6 inch f3.6 SN.
I stopped imaging when the subs started getting light due to dawn approaching. Was still quite warm.
I had the mount aligned from the night before after getting home from the Newcastle Astro society meeting. I was able to close the garage door after aligning, catching some sleep then opening the door allowing the scope to look out to the east, the comet rising out of the light pollution and above a tree. It was just visible in a 8x50 finderscope. The sky was still quite light polluted, a slight haze was about.
Images calibrated as usual in Iris, final processing in Photoshop and Noiseware.
