As for what to buy? I'd look for a second hand ST9XME / ST10XME, these chips are slightly smaller than that of the DSLR, so less field of view, but also shouldnt vignette at all which is a plus... they are both mono, self guided SBIG's and are fairly reasonably priced (2nd hand from USA) when to buy? wait for the exchange rate to come back a bit...
If you're not keen on mono, the ST2000XCM/ST4000XCM is for you, again, smaller chip than the DSLR, ST2K is 2mp, ST4k is 4mp. Both are self guided, great chips with moderately high QE for a color camera....
Thats enough babble from me (I've been looking at the SBIG site a lot recently, as im in the same position, with C11 + WO66 on EQ6, Im really needing to shed some weight from the system... ST10XME + AO8 + CFW is on my "to buy" list...)
