Why is it so far away, why not in the city, at the Art Gallery or at one of the Uni's or something?

The Gravity Discovery Centre/Cosmos Centre is very well suited to it, and the location, inside their large (5 story??) gallery dome is quite unique. It's a much more interesting and "matching" location than say a univeristy foya, I think.
Gin Gin is a bit up north, it took us about an hour from where we live in the hills I think. The centre has a few other attractions which means it's not hard to spend 1.5 hours there, you can have lunch there too.
The other location I'd like to see this kind of thing held at would be the Perth Observatory. I think in that case and the Gin Gin case the location is inspiring to visitors also, it add to the exhibition.
At the gallery at Gin Gin they currently have a exhibition of John Goldsmith's work also, as well as the permanent displays. I like John's work but felt the exhibition of that could have been more. Nether the less it's something else to view there.
Btw, in case you're not familiar with the GDC:
