And here is the circuit as PDF. The vero board was 50 x 45 mm section of a larger board with 23 x 7 mm cutout on one corner to fit next to one of the motors. A layout diagram would be something I'd consider if anyone is seriously interested in copying this.

Total: a bit under $45

I think that's the lot, without counting hookup wire which is about $5/roll.
