I've always had a fascination with lighthouses, a friend of mine was fortunate to spend several years as a lighthose keeper around the various Tasmanian lighthouses.

Interestingly the Eddystone Point Lighthouse he described as "Spooky", saying that there was always something eerily uncomfortable about the area.

Lighthouses are no longer manned, at least here in Tasmania, however you can still apply for voluntary work at some of the remote locations, including Deal Island in the middle of Bass Strait and Matsuyker Island. I have heard that the waiting list for Deal Island is around 2 years.
