Houghy, I think you'd be surprised just how many people out there are undiagnosed. I am aspie and i rate off the chart on the tests but it doesn't mean anything different for me. It hasn't changed my life just given me a bit more understanding of who i am. there are some excellent websites around like wrongplanet.com etc. I think someone summed it up well by saying normal is just a setting on the washing machine.
I have good days and bad days but i get by independently. It is a lot worse for the young people who don't understand why they are different. I think once you get into your 30's you have generally developed your own coping mechanisms, as long as that house of cards doesn't come tumbling down.
