I wonder how companies like Sbig, FLI, Rcoss and other specialized astro gear makers will handle the global finincial crisis? Countries where much of their customer base is (Europe and USA) are in or close to recession.
The fact that Sbig says they have overbuilt cameras reminds me of the auto industry, they too have excess stock they are trying to move. The prices may indeed represent very good value, but with a lot of the finincially well off people who would normally buy them suddenly finding their high income isnt guaranteed anymore, putting the brakes on spending.
A lot of professional science institutions may also have to curb their spending as government and non-government funding dries up, representing losses of sales for the high end equipment makers
If the global recession turns out to be as prolonged and deep as the current Solar Minimum is, things could get a bit nasty indeed.
