I have had the TV 15mm PL for about one month now. I've had it out about 6-7 times under light polluted skies (20km from CBD), and only now am I starting to appreciate some differences between the TV & the GSOs. I have 9 & 25mm GSOs, so focal lengths are not comparable. I'd be inclined to say that the differences are not great, but I suspect the TV has better contrast (but can't be sure until I can compare with a 15mm GSO). The big difference is the price: GSO: $39 from Andrews, TV: $145 from Bintel. I'd say the $104 price diff is probably not worth it, if you just want a decent replacement for the s500.
And yes, both types of EPs will work well with just about any scope.
