I once had a problem with an Orion CCD camera where if I tried to plug it into a USB port other than the one which I used for the original install, it was not recognised and various dialogues opened up asking me to install from the CD for drivers etc.
Hope you manage to fix it, especially since these devices are meant to be plug and play!
