Hi Scott - This is a great effort. I think this is one of the hardest objects for a DSLR. It is really faint. The "splotch" must be a reflection. It is not in my shot.
Here is one I did a while ago. It was with an STL-11000m and an FSQ-106 4" f5. 3x10mins each colour. I did stretch it a lot. You can see the interstellar medium too.
Keep up the good work. Try the Sculptor dwarf too.
