Nice one. Yup John has answered the question for you. I use the same method that he does. I get those sketch pads with the spiral bound from the newsagent and then sketch using HB or 2B (depends). I usually have a blunt one for shading and a sharp one for the stars. I start by placing the field stars and then sketch the nebulosity, etc in. I try to put in as much detail as possible under red light at the ep as I want to capture the essence of the object and not have to do too much touchup which I have to do from memory (dust lanes and stuff will have to be added later as you need an eraser to put them in). Then I invert the sketch after scanning. I must remember to sketch more boldly so the sketch transferes well when scanned and inverted. Oh and by the way I have started to experiment with a black sketch pad and color pencils. Let you know how that goes when I get some done
