Ah, re-makes.
Let's be brutally honest here. They don't have a very good batting average, do they?
Two of my favourite remakes were Cronenberg's The Fly and Carpenter's The Thing. Both took the original idea, gave it a slightly different spin with a competent production crew and created examples of worthwhile cinema.
Then, on the other hand, we have The Time Machine, Planet of the Apes and I Am Legend, the latter of which is about to get the prequel treatment, can you believe? I can hear Richard Matheson's anguished screams of torment from here!
So, no. I'm not real optimistic of this currant re-make that we apparently had to have, but I'm going to see it anyway and hopefully, just maybe, it will fill me with wonder and awe, just like the original did.
