I dunno about other people, but I find it best to get shots of lightning as the storm approaches from the west before the rain starts. Once the rain starts, it's often all over for me. Unfortunately I don;t have long enough views to be able to capture lightning from storms that are >5ks away. (Which is always the safest way
).
