Thanks everyone for your comments.
Alex is right about those 2 options the only drawback with putting the filter over the lens is you are shooting blind ( the filtes are very dark ) and makes it difficult to compose te shot.
Thats why I went with the 3rd option and replaced the IR blocker with a 950 nm ( quite deep IR ) IR filter but this means the camera can't be used for anything else.
