Hi Mike, Been through the same saga with my daughter who is now a Music teacher in Melbourne. She was and still is a Trumpet player. We originally bought her a King 600 American Jazz trumpet. I bought the more expensive model with the thought that in the worst case we would have an instrument which could be resold easily with minimal losses. Shop arround the major music stores in the country. ie Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane etc. The price for the same instrument can vary significantly, and being the end of the year some very good deals are available. Delivery will be by courier where ever you buy from. $600 to $700 should buy a reasonable instrument.
My daughter still uses the same trumpet today so the purchase was worth while. 6 years of high school band and 4 Years of university an it's going strong and is still a quality instrument.
