Hi all

I'm sure there's a few musical types around here so hopefully someone can help me out.

My son Jacob plays the trumpet in the school training band, and next year will be in the concert band. We're hiring the trumpet this year but are likely to have to buy, or hire then buy next year.

What are the different types of trumpets and what are they worth?

We don't want or need a top of the line one but don't want a cheapy that sounds crap either.

We've been offered a 2nd hand Yamaha TR Student one that's only a year old, bought on sale from Macron for $649, but neither us, nor the sellers, know what it's worth 2nd hand ($400-$500?).

Are there any other places we should look, or avoid, for new or 2nd hand trumpets?
