Hi Baz,
I'm an electrician too.
It's possibly a 'maintained' fluoro fitting, they use these as emergency lights
and it's possibly got a battery pack and second tube and some electronics inside.
If that's the case, as Phil said, make sure you know what is inside, never
assume anything.
The extra connections are probably a second 'maintained' active and
test wires.
Just because you've wired up dozens of lights and power points doesn't
make you a qualified electrician...be careful!!
If in doubt, ask one!
