The Safe mode tip for deleting the registry entries was a good one - if after that though it is still not recognising the cameras correctly I think a reinstall will be the way to go. Windows seems to have a limited tolerance for install/uninstall/plug/unplug and it will certainly restore reliability/performance - it is just a pain to do it.
