my laptop wouldnt recognise the qhy5 if the usb cable was too long, are you using any extenders/hubs?
i remember reading that someone on the qhy forum had a problem with devices not recognised if they had 4 or more usb cables plugged into the pc.
short of that, i have no idea.. both are still working well for me.
by the way does the red led on the qhy5 flash when it says its exposing?
