I saw an American amatuer advertising a 31" RC on the net the other day for $275,000. He also offered his observatory for sale if anyone could afford the mountain top hideaway in Utah.
It's one of those hobbies where you often start off small and then continue to buy the best you can afford just like boat owners, sports car enthusiasts, serious bike riders.
Self gratification hogwash, I think it's more a case of pride in what you have and a dream of having more.
