I agree entirely! The type of media attention that the LHC has been receiving only highlights that there is a general scientific ignorance in the community. I've noticed that people see science as a novelty (especially with human space exploration), or are completely scared of it (as is the case with the LHC) because they fear they will find science too confronting. Some people are yet to discover the joys of science (as I'm sure many of you have found) and learn that science is equally a passion as it is a discipline.
