The Sun Today 1/10/08 - Large Prominence

If anybody has a chance to take out their solar telescopes today, there is a rather spectacular prominence situated around the rim somewhere. I still haven't worked out the P.A. as both the PST and SM40 show different orientations. Perhaps somebody can tell me how to determine the correct orientation of the sun through these scopes. It's not as if there are surface features like the moon to work out where things are!

The prominence, at least from our perspective is about 110,000 kms long. I used my Meade Astrometric EP scale to work out the ratio.

Cheers everybody,
Steve B
