Parlament

Hi all,

Here is Parlament (Parliament), the seat of the National Assembly of Hungary, in Budapest (Central Pest). It's the largest building in Hungary, and the second-largest parliament building in Europe.

This building was apparently modelled on London's Westminster Palace, and its spires dominate Kossuth Lajos tér (square). It is a gothic architectural masterpiece. It looks like something out of Gotham City. Construction started in 1885 and finished in 1904. It's actually always under constuction as it is that big.

Inside, it is lined with marble and gold. About one thousand people worked on its construction; 40 million bricks, half a million precious gems and other exotic materials, which were native to Hungary, were used to build it.

The first image shows the intricate roof of one of the more famous rooms in the building -- it is hexadecagonal in shape -- where the National Assembly meets.

The second image shows a cigar holder. Not used nowadays.

The third image shows the main conference hall.

The final image is a shot of a beautiful flowerbed which was just outside the main entrance.

Comments and critique, welcome.

Regards,
Humayun
