Colonising any planet in our Solar System will cause more problems than any solution to overpopulation. History is replete with 'civilisations' that completely destroyed their local ecosystem. A few examples Easter Island, the Incas, Machu Pichu and there are many more. The simple fact in the past there was always somewhere unspoiled to move to. We no longer have this luxury as nearly every ecosystem is under extreme pressure due to the proliferation of a certain species of naked ape.

Careful analysis by archaeologists has found that the first sign of any civilisation failing is that early childhood death rate goes up markedly well before complete collapse. If you cannot look after your young you are doomed.

We are all guilty by just being. We really have to rethink the wasteful ways we all use this planets natural resources.

When I was born in 1949 the total human population was about three billion it is now close to seven billion. This has occurred in less than one lifetime. Another sobering thought is that if you say that modern humans 'started' about three million years ago. Currently of all the the modern humans that ever lived from this arbitrary time about FIVE PERCENT are alive today. Exponential growth is only good for the bottom line of large corporations. We are behaving like bacteria in a petri dish. The bacteria will keep multiplying until all the food runs out. Then the whole colony dies. Surely we are smarter than this?!
