2012

I checked out the center line of the 14/11/2012 eclipse recently.

I think it might be cloudy on the coast. Oak Beach has several accommodation places but beware of the crocs and stingers.
The beach has a good view of the sun.
The Mossman - Mt Molloy road has trees along the center line but there is a lookout.
I am planning to stay at Mt Carbine because the road there runs parallel to the eclipse center line and it will be possible to move around to avoid cloud. The friendly Mt Carbine caravan park has some rooms and a powered site is currently $16/night.

Maitland Downs Station is already expecting 40 eclipse chasers but the hills to the east may be a problem there.
Palmer River Roadhouse charges $16.50 for a powered site.
If you want something upmarket try Port Douglas. Bill Clinton's old room might be available for a small fee.
