Yes the skies were dark all right
Phil Hart showed how it is possible to take really good images without tracking..this inspired my wife who has never taken an astroimage ever before to give it a try -not with a DSLR-as she didnt have one-but with her slightly long in the tooth point and shoot Canon A85-15 secs max exposure-and this is what she finished with after stacking in DSS and some processing in GIMP (I did not have PS on my laptop)
oh the bright object is of course Jupiter
she simply put her camera facing upwords on my observing table and took a large number of 15 sec images which she stacked in DSS later
