PRICE RED! Supernova Search Charts & Handbook
For sale is a rare, well conserved “The Supernova Search Charts and Handbook”. The box might appear well used (small scratch at the back), but the search charts are practically as new, free from creases and tears. I seldom used it and have never brought them outdoor before. Its use for searching supernova visually is superior to using just photographs.
Please read some of the reviews extracted below:
Review
"...an ideal compromise over other methods used in the surveillance of galaxies in our program." Sky & Telescope
"The production of these charts has clearly been a labour of love, and the deep-sky observer will find them an invaluable asset when searching galaxies for supernovae." Times Higher Education Supplement
"...a tool second only to the telescope itself." Reflections
"...one of the best tools for hunting extragalatic supernovae available for amateur astronomers." Deep Sky
"In this beautifully printed version, the charts are accompanied by a clear, helpful guide to supernova searching, full of practical advice and essays of appreciation and encouragement from professionals in the field. Nicely done!" Mercury
"This chart set is an excellent...resource for the amateur astronomer. It fills a gap that has long existed in backyard astronomy literature and can be recommended strongly." Astronomy
"...absolutely essential to anyone wanting to undertake a supernova search program." Choice
"...very professionally and intelligently produced. The thoughtfulness and experience of the authors is evident." Griffith Observer
Description (as appear on the box)
This unique atlas contains 236 charts of more than 300 of the brightest galaxies, each specifically prepared to facilitate the discovery of supernovae. The comparison of these charts with the field seen in a telescope enables any extra-galactic supernova to be spotted immediately. The proto-type set of these charts has already resulted in the discovery of several new supernovae. The charts include 345 galaxies printed on translucent paper for use on a lightbox, each one carrying an explanation of the constellation in which the galaxy lies, special characteristics of the galaxy, observing instructions, expected maximum brightness for the supernovae in each galaxy, and the reference for the sequence. A handbook, which accompanies the charts, describes how to make and record supernova discoveries, and reviews the present understanding of supernovae.
