the old siggy 170-500 wasnt HSM. the 50-500 and 150-500 are pretty quick at focusing apparently. the many reviews i have seen say so anyhow.
if it was a quality issuse i'd have gone the 50-500 cause its an EX and the build quality is quite good as are the coatings.
