Hi Ian,

Hubble passed in that direction a couple of minutes before 6:14, and was predicted to be mag 1.6. Might have been this that you saw? I didn't catch it tonight, but saw it yesterday at about the same time, and noticed that it brightened substantially in the 30 seconds before it entered the Earth's shadow. Look out for it again tomorrow night at about 6:11pm - it will pass very close to the Moon (passing in front as seen from Wellington Pt?), and then close to Jupiter.
