yeah when you over expose the whites (or under expose blacks) you loose all the detail in that area permantently. if you shoot for the whites and use levels and/or curves to balance the ddarker colours you will end up with more detail and a better ballanced picture.

also what metering mode did you use? changing that may also help....

i just checked your exif and youhave the exposure bias set to +1.33 which is really high. bring it down to zero and if its under exposing too much bring it up to +0.3 or +0.7 maximium....
